Geography of Ourense

Ourense is the only landlocked Galician province, a mountainous land where Pena Trevinca (2,127 m), the highest point in Galicia, rises and the Miño and Sil rivers carve the spectacular canyons of the Ribeira Sacra. The climate is a transition between oceanic and continental, with the hottest summers in Galicia. Oak woods, chestnut groves, terraced vineyards and forestry plantations sustain a high wildfire risk, above all in the southern and eastern ranges. Fun fact: the Ribeira Sacra holds the greatest concentration of medieval monasteries in Europe.
