Geography of Santa Cruz de Tenerife

The western Canary province gathers Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro. It is crowned by El Teide (3,715 m), the highest peak in Spain, on an island of sharp volcanic relief. The trade winds feed the laurisilva —cloud forest— of Garajonay National Park, while the heights are clad in Canary pine. That pinewood, on very steep slopes, suffered a huge fire on Tenerife in 2023. Fun fact: in 2021 the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano on La Palma reshaped the south of the island.
