Wildfires in Catalonia
Catalonia has long experience of high-intensity wildfires, driven by wind, drought and continuous Mediterranean forest. The inland districts of Barcelona and Girona, southern Tarragona and the Lleida Pre-Pyrenees are the highest-risk areas in summer.
Recent notable fires include Ribera d'Ebre (Tarragona) in 2019, and El Pont de Vilomara (Bages) and Artesa de Segre (Lleida) in 2022.
Firefighting is carried out by the Generalitat's fire brigade (Bombers), supported by the Rural Agents, and the regional government restricts access and activities in high-risk municipalities through the Pla Alfa. On this page you will see today's satellite hotspots in the four Catalan provinces, the fire danger and official links to confirm any fire.
