Geography of Girona
Girona brings together the Costa Brava, the Pyrenees and the Empordà plain, swept by the tramuntana, a dry, gusty northerly wind. The climate is Mediterranean, wetter and colder in the high mountains. The cork-oak woods of Les Gavarres and La Selva and the coastal pine forests burn fiercely when the tramuntana blows hard, as in the great Empordà fires. Fun fact: Cap de Creus, amid cliffs sculpted by the wind, is the easternmost point of the Iberian Peninsula.
