Geography of Islas Baleares

The Balearic Islands form a Mediterranean archipelago of Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera. Mallorca rises into the Serra de Tramuntana, with the Puig Major (1,436 m), while the rest are gentle reliefs and limestone coasts. The climate is distinctly Mediterranean, hot and dry in summer. Aleppo-pine woods, holm oak and garrigue cover much of the land and, together with the huge summer tourist influx, raise wildfire risk. Fun fact: the Serra de Tramuntana is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Menorca a biosphere reserve.
