Wildfires in Extremadura
Extremadura combines dehesas and pastures with fire-prone mountain forests, especially in northern Cáceres: Sierra de Gata, Las Hurdes, the Jerte valley and La Vera.
Several major fires have hit these areas in recent years, such as Sierra de Gata in 2015 and Las Hurdes and Sierra de Gata in 2023.
The Junta de Extremadura manages prevention and firefighting through the INFOEX Plan, which restricts burning and the use of machinery in the countryside during the high-danger period. On this page you will see today's satellite hotspots in Badajoz and Cáceres, each province's fire danger and links to official information.
