Wildfires in Castilla-La Mancha
Castilla-La Mancha alternates vast farming plains with large forests in the Serranía de Cuenca, the Alto Tajo and the Sierra de Ayllón (Guadalajara), the Montes de Toledo, the Alcaraz and Segura ranges (Albacete) and Sierra Morena in Ciudad Real.
Cereal and grass fires are common at the start of summer, and forest fires can be very serious in pine areas: the 2005 Riba de Saelices fire (Guadalajara) killed eleven members of a firefighting crew.
Prevention and firefighting fall under the regional INFOCAM Plan, with the public company GEACAM and aircraft, coordinated by the regional 112 service. Here you can check today's satellite hotspots in the five provinces, each province's fire danger and links to official information.
