Geography of Palencia

Palencia is split between the cereal plain of Tierra de Campos in the south and the rugged Montaña Palentina in the north, where the Cantabrian Range raises peaks such as Espigüete and Curavacas above 2,500 m. The climate is continental, with cold winters. The oak, beech and pine woods of the northern mountains concentrate the summer wildfire risk, while the farmed south rarely burns. Fun fact: the province holds one of the greatest concentrations of Romanesque art in Europe, the Románico Palentino.
