Geography of Murcia
The Region of Murcia stretches between the huerta of the Segura, the coast of the Mar Menor and semi-arid ranges such as Espuña, Ricote and Carrascoy. The climate is semi-arid, one of the driest and warmest on the Peninsula, with scarce, torrential rainfall. The reforested pine woods of Sierra Espuña and the scrub concentrate the summer wildfire risk. Fun fact: the Mar Menor is the largest saltwater lagoon in Europe, and the late-19th-century reforestation of Sierra Espuña is regarded as a pioneering model of forest restoration.
