Wildfires in Castile and León

Castile and León is Spain's largest region and one of those with the most fires and burnt area in recent years. The west —Zamora, León and southern Salamanca— and the mountains of Ávila and Segovia are the most sensitive areas, due to the mix of scrubland, pine forest and rural depopulation.

The Sierra de la Culebra fire (Zamora) in June 2022 and the large fires in León and Zamora in August 2025 are among the most severe in Spain's recent history.

Firefighting is led by the Junta de Castilla y León through the INFOCAL operation, which publishes daily information on active fires and their severity level. On this page you will see today's satellite hotspots in its nine provinces, each province's fire danger and fires confirmed by the regional government when available.
