Geography of Zaragoza

Zaragoza spreads across the central Ebro depression, dominated by steppes and the arid Monegros, and is closed to the west by the Moncayo (2,314 m), the highest peak of the Iberian System. The climate is semi-arid and continental, shaped by the cierzo, a dry, gusty north-westerly wind. That wind spreads fires quickly through cereal stubble, steppe scrub and pine woods in summer. Fun fact: the cierzo can exceed 100 km/h and has made the valley a major wind-energy hub.
