Geography of Pontevedra

Pontevedra is carved by the Rías Baixas, deep Atlantic inlets lined with beaches, and slopes gently from the interior ranges down to the Miño, the border with Portugal. The climate is oceanic and mild. It is the most populous Galician province and the one with the highest density of eucalyptus, which, together with an intense wildland-urban interface around Vigo, greatly raises wildfire risk in summer and autumn. Fun fact: the Cíes Islands, of white sand and crystal-clear water, are part of the Atlantic Islands National Park.
