Wildfires in Galicia
Galicia is, by number of fires, one of the most affected regions in Spain. Ourense and southern Lugo account for much of the burnt area, although the Rías Baixas and inland Pontevedra also suffer serious episodes, such as the wave of fires in October 2017.
In August 2025 several large fires in Ourense burned tens of thousands of hectares and forced the evacuation of many villages.
Prevention and firefighting are managed by the Xunta de Galicia (PLADIGA plan), which publishes the active fires and their situation every day, together with the daily fire risk index (IRDI) by area. On this page you can follow today's satellite hotspots in the four Galician provinces, each province's fire danger and official links.
