Geography of Cantabria
Cantabria stretches between the Cantabrian Sea and the Cantabrian Range, which reaches the Picos de Europa in the west. It is a green land of humid valleys, Atlantic oak and beech forests, meadows, eucalyptus plantations and an indented coast. The climate is oceanic, rainy and mild. As in neighbouring Asturias, many fires concentrate in winter, linked to pasture burns and fanned by a warm, dry southerly wind. Fun fact: the Altamira cave holds some of the most famous prehistoric paintings in the world.
