Geography of Madrid
The Region of Madrid sits at the centre of the Iberian Peninsula, between the southern plateau and the Sierra de Guadarrama, whose peaks exceed 2,400 m. Its climate is continental Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers. The pine and holm-oak woods of the mountain foothills and the south-western hills carry the highest wildfire risk, especially in July and August, when steep terrain and wind hamper firefighting. Fun fact: El Pardo is one of Europe's best-preserved Mediterranean forests.
