Geography of Cuenca

Cuenca contrasts the Manchegan plain of the south with the vast, forested Serranía de Cuenca in the Iberian System, where the Tagus and Júcar rise and water has carved karst landscapes such as the Ciudad Encantada. The climate is continental, with cold winters and dry summers. Its great black-pine woods and juniper stands, on very broken terrain, make the serranía one of the highest wildfire-risk areas. Fun fact: the Hanging Houses of the capital, poised over the Huécar gorge, are its most famous image.
