Wildfires today in Álava province

Álava is the largest and most southerly of the Basque provinces. It combines the Llanada Alavesa around Vitoria-Gasteiz with the ranges that frame it and, to the south, the Rioja Alavesa, of Mediterranean climate and famous vineyards beside the Ebro. The climate is transitional between oceanic and Mediterranean. Beech, oak and pine woods cover the mountains, with a moderate wildfire risk that rises in the drier south. Fun fact: the salt valley of Salinas de Añana has worked its brine springs for more than 6,000 years.
