Geography of Málaga

Málaga unfolds along the Costa del Sol, backed by the Montes de Málaga, the Serranía de Ronda and the Sierra de las Nieves National Park. The climate is mild Mediterranean, almost subtropical on the coast. Its mountains preserve the pinsapo, a relict fir from the Ice Age, alongside extensive pine woods. Set on very steep terrain, these forests have suffered major fires such as Sierra Bermeja in 2022, hard to fight because of slope and wind. Fun fact: the karst landscape of El Torcal de Antequera is among the most spectacular in Europe.
