Geography of Guadalajara

Guadalajara stretches from the Alcarria —a plateau of páramos and valleys— to the Sierra Norte, part of the Central System, with the Pico del Lobo (2,273 m) and the Alto Tajo. The climate is continental, with sharp contrasts. Scots-pine woods, oak, juniper and the southerly Tejera Negra beech forest cover its mountains and sustain a serious wildfire risk. Fun fact: the tragic 2005 Riba de Saelices fire killed eleven crew members and reshaped Spanish forestry policy.
