Wildfires today in Teruel province

Teruel rises over the plateaus of the Iberian System, with the Gúdar, Javalambre and Maestrazgo ranges, in one of the most sparsely populated and highest areas of Spain. The climate is extreme continental: very cold winters —the city is among the chilliest in the country— and dry summers with strong storms. Extensive woods of Scots and black pine, along with juniper stands, cover its mountains and sustain a notable summer wildfire risk. Fun fact: the Albarracín range preserves prehistoric rock art, and many dinosaur sites have been found in Teruel.
